At once Cyprien Morel’s artistic name and the ensemble that gives it voice, Sqyp reflects a dual essence: intimate and collective.
A singular voice turned into a collective language, where every shadowed hue intertwines with a luminous spark. Its aim? To transcend uncertainty, fear, regret and anger, and transform them into beauty, trust, love and hope.
In this spirit, Sqyp cultivates contrasts and shifting balances: rigorous writing and improvisation, acoustic instruments and electronic textures, raw power and vulnerability. Sounds converge, collide, and align, between mathematical formulas and poetic flights, ambient soundscapes and edgy riffs, control and release.
Surrounding Cyprien Morel (guitar, voice, composition), four companions embody this vision: Mirko Maio (piano, synthesizers), Théo Diblanc (vibraphone, FX), Yann Maenner (double bass) and Fabien Ghirotto (drums). Together, they draw from The Smile, SUUNS, Tamino or Björk as much as from Tigran Hamasyan, Christian Scott, or Kurt Rosenwinkel, shaping a singular identity that weaves together jazz, rock, progressive music and art-pop.
With Chance or Fate?, their debut album to be released on November 28, 2025 in collaboration with Hout Records, Sqyp opens the doors to a deep and distinctive sonic and visual journey ; an original form of poetry, questioning the balance between chance and decisions that guide our lives.
To celebrate this release, the group will perform two album-launch concerts at the Fondation ABPi in Lausanne, on November 27 and 28, 2025.
